Day 1: Beijing – Welcome to China

Arrive in Beijing and transfer to the hotel to settle in after the journey.

In the evening, we walk to Chabad for our first dinner together, followed by a taste of Beijing’s nightlife and live music.

Day 2: Beijing – Local Life & Imperial Gardens

We begin at the Temple of Heaven, once used by China’s emperors for prayer and today a lively gathering place where Beijing residents come together for morning exercise and daily routines.

From there, we explore the historic Hutongs by rickshaw, visit a local family, and try traditional Chinese calligraphy and paper cutting.

Later, we visit the beautiful Summer Palace, including a dragon boat cruise through its gardens and waterways.

Day 3: The Great Wall – An Icon of China

Travel to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, taking the cable car into the mountains before walking along one of China’s most remarkable landmarks.

While on the Wall, we take part in a Tai Chi class, bringing together an iconic setting and one of China’s best-known traditions.
-
Back in Beijing, the evening concludes with a lively Chinese acrobatic show.

Day 4: Beijing – Imperial China

Walk through Tiananmen Square before entering the magnificent Forbidden City, once the political and ceremonial heart of imperial China.

A traditional costume experience adds a hands-on glimpse into China’s imperial past before we return to the hotel with time to prepare for Shabbat.

Candle lighting at 19:12, followed by a warm Shabbat welcome and dinner with the Chabad community.

A full Shabbat in Beijing with tefillot, shared meals, rest, and time together, experiencing Jewish life in China at a slower pace.

Day 6: Beijing to Xi’an – Into Ancient China

We leave Beijing aboard China’s high-speed bullet train and travel to Xi’an, one of the country’s great ancient capitals.

Explore the historic Xi’an City Wall, then enter the lively Muslim Quarter and visit the Great Mosque, where Chinese and Islamic traditions have developed side by side for centuries.

The evening continues with a traditional shadow-puppet performance and a walk through the illuminated Tang Dynasty pedestrian street.

Day 7: Xi’an – Warriors of an Ancient Empire

Come face to face with the extraordinary Terracotta Army, thousands of life-sized warriors created more than 2,000 years ago to guard China’s first emperor in the afterlife.

Continue with a hands-on visit to a local workshop, where we see how Terracotta Warriors are still crafted by hand and try the traditional process ourselves.

After time to refresh at the hotel and dinner from Chabad, the evening brings another chapter of Xi’an’s imperial story through the colorful Tang Dynasty Show.

Day 8: Xi’an to Chengdu – Local Life in Sichuan

Leave Xi’an aboard the high-speed train to Chengdu, entering Sichuan Province and a part of China known for its slower rhythm, tea culture, and strong local traditions.

Step into everyday Chengdu life at a popular local park, where residents gather to socialize, dance, drink tea, and even take part in the city’s famous matchmaking tradition.

Continue to Jinli Old Street, where traditional architecture, local artisans, and small workshops bring another side of Sichuan culture to life.

Day 9: Chengdu – Pandas & Taoist Mountains

Begin the morning with Chengdu’s most famous residents at the Giant Panda Base, one of the world’s leading centers dedicated to the conservation and breeding of giant pandas.

From there, travel toward Qingcheng Mountain, a place closely connected with the origins of Taoism and surrounded by lush forests and mountain scenery.

Visit a local Taoist temple before spending time in nature, with the option of a gentle forest walk or a traditional Qigong experience.

Day 10: Chengdu – Markets, Crafts & Sichuan Traditions

Begin among the sights and sounds of a local morning market, experiencing Chengdu through the everyday routines, conversations, and traditions of the people who live here.

Discover another side of Chinese craftsmanship during a traditional embroidery workshop, learning about an art form that has been practiced in Sichuan for centuries.

Later, slow the pace over tea in one of Chengdu’s traditional teahouses, an important part of the city’s social life.

After dinner, experience the drama and color of Sichuan Opera, including the remarkable art of rapid mask changing.

Day 13: Shanghai – Jewish History & a Changing Skyline

Begin with one of the journey’s most meaningful Jewish connections at Shanghai’s Synagogue Museum, exploring the story of the Jewish refugees who found safety in the city during one of the darkest periods of European history.

Continue to Yuyuan Garden and its traditional bazaar, where classical Chinese gardens and narrow market streets offer a striking contrast to modern Shanghai.

Later, experience the city’s contemporary side from above before walking along The Bund, where historic buildings face the futuristic skyline across the Huangpu River.

End the evening on a Huangpu River cruise, watching both sides of Shanghai illuminate the waterfront.
